Her fascination with adolescent brain development was sparked in graduate school at Michigan State University where she investigated the influence of pubertal hormones on adolescent brain and behavioral development in the laboratory of Dr. Cheryl Sisk. Kalynn was a fellow in the DPRG postdoctoral training program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and held joint faculty positions in Psychiatry (University of Colorado, Anschutz) and the Denver VAMC. In Denver, she expanded her research questions to include the hormonal determinants of prenatal brain development, and established a pre-clinical research program aimed at determining mechanisms by which developmental stress exposure confers risk for mental illness.
